FROGGY PROFILE: Funnelback
Funnelback was a finalist (ranked #5) in the inaugural Intermedium Leaping Frog Award (Froggy). We profile Funnelback and its growth in the Federal Government market.
The Froggy award recognises Federal Government ICT market suppliers that achieved the fastest rate of sales growth over three years, as measured by their aggregate annual contract value from 2004-05 to 2006-07.
Funnelback achieved new contracts in 2006-07 worth $3.5 million, up from just over $173,000 in 2004-05. This is an impressive rate of growth during the three years of 1,894%.
Funnelback's largest single contract in the Federal Government market was a $1.65m contract with Department of Finance in January 2007. Other Federal Government clients include Federal Court, Family Court, ACCC, Environment and Heritage and DAFF.
Funnelback is a Canberra based Internet and Enterprise search engine company. The company offers a ‘Software as a Service’ or hosted search solution for websites as well as a fully customisable whole-of-enterprise solution for searching information, such as TRIM, intranets, shared drives, databases and library catalogues behind the firewall.
Funnelback’s client list includes State and Commonwealth government agencies, blue chip companies such as Westpac, ninemsn, CareerOne and the ASX, and one third of all Australian universities, as well as clients in the United Kingdom and Canada.
Funnelback technology was developed at the CSIRO, and Funnelback maintains a strong research and development alliance with the CSIRO.
In January 2007, Funnelback won the tender to provide search for www.australia.gov.au. This is a fully hosted service. The search service allows citizens to search for and find valuable information on government policies and programs across the breadth of all Australian government websites.
Over 700,000 search queries are processed by Funnelback each month for the Commonwealth Government.
Funnelback recently won the tender to provide a whole-of-enterprise search solution for Geoscience Australia. Other enterprise customers include the ACCC, Department of Immigration and Citizenship and the Australian Institute of Criminology.
Funnelback has also recently grown its market share with State, Territory and Local Governments. Funnelback powers search for the whole of the ACT Government and for the whole of the Queensland Government. Other clients include WA Department of Health, WA Department of Agriculture, NSW Premiers Office, ICAC and Logan City Council.
Funnelback can be deployed on a number of operating systems – allowing clients to leverage existing infrastructure and systems. The core of the Funnelback search engine is a world class result ranking algorithm, which can be tuned to the specific information retrieval needs of clients.
